When we first bought Twiggy, he was exactly that, an itty bitty twig. He was only 8-10 weeks old, and so tiny in comparison to our Uromastyx. I named our Uro Amiri, so my boyfriend chose Twiggys name. It didn't take long for our little Twigster to start filling out.
This was the first time we introduced Sydney to Twiggy. In the picture you can see that she was very curious to meet him. By the display of black beard, he was not as fond of her. They eventually warmed up to each other though.
For the first few months of having 2 dragons, we kept them housed together. Twiggy was clearly the dominant one, and liked to show it by laying on top of Sydney, whenever he'd have the chance. On occasion the roles would be reversed and she'd give him a taste of his own medicine.
In this picture Sydney is showing Twiggy who the boss is!
The first night that they slept in the same tank, Twiggy was sort of a jerk about sharing his food. He was never aggressive about it, but he would lay in the food and make Sydney eat around him! This is a picture of Twiggy sleeping in his food dish, and Sydney cuddling up to him. Awwww!
Yes another adorable picture of the two of them sleeping beside each other. Twiggy normally sleeps on his basking branch, but when he shared a tank with Syd, the often slept on the ground beside her. Twiggy is on the right and Sdy is on the left.
We bought a reptile leash for the dragons. During the summer we go to the park pretty frequently, with the kids. And we take the lizards along with us, so they can walk and get some sunshine. In this picture, we had tried the brand new leash on Sydney(she was willing to hold still long enough) and after getting her in it, she realized the cricket cage was nearby and was trying to get the crickets through the plastic walls. And then we have Sydney in her leash and in the car, while on our way to the park.
Bearded Dragons are extremely smart, social animals. No matter how many are housed together, one has to be the more dominant. In this picture Twiggy is giving Sydney his "serious face" and Sydney is doing an "arm wave." Arm waving means that she doesn't want to fight, and that she's not the dominant one. I was very lucky to get a picture of this display. It was very very cool to watch them communicate through body movements and gestures. I had to google most of them to translate what they were saying.
We had to upgrade to a larger basking branch for the dragons, because Twiggys baby branch was not cutting it any longer.
We give the dragons baths once a week. It's a good way for them to stay hydrated, and I can scrub off what ever sand or grime they have on them. Most often though, it's just to give them some time to relax in warm water and take a drink or swim around.
Other times though, they really do need a bath. Typically when Sydney lays her eggs, she's in a tank of potting soil for a few hours and once she's finished laying she is absolutely filthy. I have to bathe the bathtub after her bath!
She always looks so beautiful after a bath. Her skin really shows her bright lemon fire coloring. This was while she was pregnant. The week or so before she lays her eggs, she gets quite a few baths, to help ease her labor.
My boyfriend bought me a puppy for my birthday! I knew a week or two ahead of time that I was getting her, so I had the chance to pick one from the litter and decide on a name. This is the day we brought her home. Look at those sad eyes! She's a Yorkie and Shih'tzu mix. We named her Bailey.
She was so tiny, and I loved holding her like a baby when she slept.
My favorite part about puppies is their little paws.
Baileys first toy was this pink elephant. She use to always bring it to me when she wanted to sleep. I'd put her and the elephant in my lap, and she would pass out. She still loves to play with it. Though, now it's tail is ripped off and I've had to sew it back on. She has a giraffe too, that's the same brand, size and material. She just seems to like her elephant the most.
I'm a pretty big fan of throws, and I have a few of them. Bailey insists on sleep on or near me or on top of one of my throws.
She also likes to sleep on my shoes. Or on my purse. Or on a jacket. It doesn't really matter where Bailey sleeps as long as it's on top of someone else or something that belong to someone else. Also, it may seem like she sleeps a lot, and she does. But, I really just like taking pictures while she sleep. She looks innocent.
Bailey's much bigger now. Still sleeping all over everything, but now she has her own little bed. She really only sleeps in it at night, though she sometimes sneaks in bed with us too. She still likes if one of my throws is around to lay on also.
Like I said before, I love puppy paws. I decided to make Bailey her own Christmas tree ornament this year. We had to struggle with her to get a decent paw print, and then had to let the clay dry for two days, but I think it turned out really great.
Yes, I'm one of those women who will dress their dog up. But only during winter. I won't put her in a dress or something.....
Present day Bailey, still sleeping on her mommy. This dog is spoiled, obviously.
Baileys "please throw my toy" face.
Jabba and River.
